"Innovation lies at the intersection of science, purpose, and people."
Hi, I am Ranit Karmakar — a researcher, builder, and entrepreneur who cares about making technology useful. My work has taken me from industry, where I built systems to automate complex workflows, to academia, where I design machine learning tools for medicine and biology. Across these worlds, my focus has stayed the same: combining scientific depth with practical impact.
At Harvard, I work on applied machine learning and medical AI, while also helping shape research strategy, mentoring students, and developing partnerships between labs and industry. I am most energized by problems that demand both technical precision and big-picture thinking — whether it is scaling ML models, designing tools that clinicians can trust, or charting where AI research should head next.
I believe science matters most when it is not only rigorous, but also usable. And I see technology as transformative only when it is grounded in empathy, context, and real human need.
